I have been a registered nurse for 27 years. Several years ago, I pursued my call to counseling, finishing my masters July 2009. I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Missouri, a National Certified Counselor, and an EMDRIA certified therapist and approved consultant.
I am committed to compassionate, professional counseling to my clients desiring healing and hope, and those desiring help with life transitions. I am a Christian and am blessed to have a private counseling practice.
Theoretically, I believe that it is important to understand the client as a whole. First, I listen to what the client wants. During the first sessions, I get to know the client, including their strengths, resources that are supportive, and any areas that the client perceives as challenging. I will ask about any medications or health related issues, and with children, a developmental history. I believe the past is important to focus on when it interferes with the present, but much more important is supporting my client as they move forward.
After determining our counseling goal(s), I borrow from several theories to support my clients find purpose and meaning, empowerment, tools to enrich their life and meet their personal goals. I frequently use cognitive behavioral therapy, positive psychology, play therapy, and EMDR.
It’s my honor to serve you and be a part of your life. Blessings, Judy
